I saw an infographic recently called Why is [state] so... and thought it would be interesting to do the same for programming languages. Unfortunately, there's no convenient visualization (like a map) for programming languages, so screen shots will have to do. Here are a few results for the languages that Google actually recognizes as programming languages.
ASP.NET

C++

C#

Cobol

Erlang

Fortran

Haskell

Java

JavaScript

Lisp

Objective-C

Perl

PHP

Python

Ruby

Smalltalk

VB.NET

As a long-time Java programmer, I'm just pleasantly surprised that "popular" was the top result instead of "slow."

Thanks for the post... makes my old Smalltalk bones feel better
How could you forget C?
I like how Erlang seems to be in a contradiction with itself.
You forgot LISP. Also REXX doesn't seem to have any results...which is telling
Why is SQL so...
fast
powerful
popular
hard
There seem to be a lot of similarities between languages here. Common experience?
Control data point:
"Why is programming so"
Hmm IMO Python docs are good.
Poor Objective-C devs...
I've: why php is so hated
